5 Ways to Help You Keep Warm in the Winter without Cranking up the Heat

Believe it or not, it is much easier to save money on your energy bills in the winter. When the temperatures rise, there are not many things that you can to do (besides turning up your AC) to keep cool. However, there are some things that you can do to stay warm without cranking up your heater, and seeing a spike in your energy bills.

1. Wear more clothing to retain your body heat.

There is no doubt that the road to keeping warm and saving energy all begins with what you are wearing. While there is no reason that you cannot lounge around in shorts and a t-shirt while you are relaxing at home, those who want to save energy might want to put on some more clothing to keep them from turning up the thermostat. Also, closely woven fabrics will help you retain your body heat.

2. Open your curtains and blinds during the day, and close them at night.

Right after you wake up; open your curtains and blinds to let the sunlight enter your home. Although it is cold outside, the sun will still offer some warmth. At the end of the day, you should also make it a priority to close them once more to keep the heat in and the cold out!

3. Turn down the temperature while you are sleeping.

Turning your thermostat down a few degrees while you are sleeping, at work, or are just out and about for the day will help save energy. Plus, you can always pile on more blankets at night!

4. Shower with the door open.

This will be easier for some more than others. But, if you can, consider showering with the door open to let the humid and warm air circulate, and thus help raise the temperature of your home.

5. Leave the oven door open once you are done baking.

The reason people cook outside in the summer is because it is too hot to do it inside. But, it is the opposite during the winter. Therefore, when you are done baking those cookies, turkey, casserole, etc., keep the oven door open to allow that leftover heat to circulate throughout your home!

In the end, there are plenty of small things that you can do around your home that will help keep you warm and comfortable without cranking up the heat.
