Secure Your Home Before Leaving for A Winter Vacation

One of the best feelings is racing home from work on a Friday to finish packing for your long-awaited winter vacation! In all of the excitement, just make sure you secure your home. If you are leaving for a two-week, or month-long trip away from your home, be sure every loose end is taken care of.

Care Temp Heating and Air Conditioning is giving you free safety tips on how to secure your home properly! In order to receive the tips, you have to take us on your vacation with you!

Just kidding. Here they are:

-Set your thermostat to 60 degrees. Having your thermostat at this temperature will prevent your pipes from freezing. The last thing you need is to have your water pipes burst, while you are thousands of miles away enjoying a tropical sunset!

-Have a neighbor you trust check on your home each day you are gone. Just in case there is an HVAC problem, you can leave your neighbor Care Temp’s number.

-Call your post office or local mail carrier to stop your mail service while you are away. Or, you can have a relative or neighbor come over and pick up the mail for you. Thieves may notice that you are away from your home if they see mail build up outside.

-To make sure it looks like someone is home, put on a set of lights or set a timer. Outside motion detectors are also useful.

-If you are using a water heater, turn it off before leaving. Since nobody will be using it while you are gone, there is no sense in keeping it on.
