Gas Conversions in Toms River
Oil, Propane & Electric-to-Gas Conversions
Care Temp, LLC has been helping New Jersey homeowners heat their homes more efficiently since 1994. We hold a New Jersey Master HVACR License and are a designated preferred contractor with New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG), which means we work directly with the utility that serves Toms River and Ocean County homeowners throughout the entire conversion process. You don’t have to manage the gas company and your HVAC contractor separately. We coordinate both sides. Our technicians are certified, technically trained professionals who work on all makes and models, and every gas conversion we complete is handled to the same standard: permits are pulled, the work area is left clean, and there are no shortcuts.
Why Toms River Homeowners Are Switching to Natural Gas
A significant number of homes in Toms River still run on fuel oil, and many homeowners are actively weighing the switch. The reasons are practical. Natural gas arrives through an underground pipeline, so there’s no delivery scheduling, no waiting for a truck, and no risk of running low during a cold stretch. Fuel oil tanks, by contrast, can develop leaks over time, creating potential environmental cleanup liability that falls on the homeowner.
New high-efficiency gas furnaces and boilers also consume less fuel than older oil systems, compounding the savings over time. Natural gas burns cleaner as well, producing less soot and fewer emissions. And in the New Jersey real estate market, homes heated with natural gas tend to be more attractive to buyers.
Our Gas Conversion Process
A gas conversion isn’t a single afternoon job. It typically involves a home assessment, equipment selection, gas line work if a new line or extension is needed, removal of the old oil or propane system, installation of the new gas furnace or boiler, and a final inspection before the system goes into service.
Why Trust Care Temp, LLC for Gas Conversions?
P&N Distribution, one of our distribution partners, noted in a published testimonial that across hundreds of heating and air conditioning installations over many years, they hadn’t received a single consumer complaint tied to our work. That record reflects how we operate: fair, reliable, and loyal to the customer, not to the upsell. We give you accurate information about your system. If another contractor has told you a system can’t be repaired and must be replaced, we offer a free second opinion. Financing is also available for homeowners who need flexibility when investing in a new system.
NJNG SAVEGREEN Rebates & Incentives
Homeowners converting to high-efficiency natural gas equipment may be eligible for rebates and financing through NJNG’s SAVEGREEN program, which currently runs through June 2027, as well as incentives through NJNG’s Switch to Gas program. As an NJNG preferred contractor, we work within that ecosystem and can help you understand what may apply to your project. Rebate amounts and qualifying equipment can change, so we recommend confirming current program terms and eligibility directly with NJNG before your project begins.

-
What does it mean that Care Temp is an NJNG preferred contractor?
Care Temp, LLC is a designated preferred contractor with New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG), meaning we’re recognized by the utility as qualified to perform gas conversion work within the NJNG service territory. In practical terms, we work directly with NJNG to coordinate the utility-side steps of your conversion, such as meter and service work, so you don’t have to manage that coordination on your own.
-
Do I need a permit to convert from oil to gas heat in Toms River, NJ?
Yes. New Jersey requires permits for HVAC fuel-source conversions, and a township inspection must be completed before the new system is put into service. Care Temp, LLC pulls all required permits on every job. Skipping the permit process can create problems with homeowners insurance, future home sales, and system safety, and we’ll tell you plainly if another contractor suggests cutting that corner.
-
Can I convert to natural gas if my home runs on propane or electric heat?
Yes, conversions aren’t limited to oil-heated homes. If natural gas service is available on your street, a home on propane or electric heat can convert, though a new gas line or extension may be needed. Feasibility depends on whether NJNG service is available at your property. NJNG’s availability map can help you check before committing to the project.
-
What happens to my old oil tank when I convert to natural gas?
Oil tanks must be properly decommissioned when a home converts to gas. In New Jersey, tank removal and abandonment is regulated primarily by the NJ Department of Community Affairs (DCA), and work must be performed by a certified professional. This typically involves draining, cleaning, and either removing the tank or abandoning it in place. If a leak or discharge is discovered during the process, the NJ DEP becomes involved and remediation may be required, a cost that falls on the homeowner. Improper handling can create environmental liability, so this step should never be skipped. Contact us to discuss your specific situation and next steps.

I want to THANK CARE TEMP for helping me during this 115 degree heat wave. I had no AC and my house was 98 degrees. Some community members recommended DK SLEDZAK, BERGE HVAC and CARE TEMP. Care Temp was the ONLY company that answered the phone during the holiday heat wave and sent a tech out that day to fix my AC. Care Temp gained a new customer and it has been 1 week and still no return phone call back from the other companies. THANK YOU CARE TEMP for your help and for caring for us old people!!!! I will dKim Blum

I live in Whiting and I called Care Temp because my AC was not working. I spoke with the office and immediately was given an appointment. Since my ac is old, I didn't want to take any more chances of it not working during the summer time so I asked the tech for a price to replace it. I did call 2 more local companies for a quote but Sledzik never showed up and when I called the office, the lady was rude and told me that I did not have an appointment and when I gave the name of who I spoke to, she told me thMarilyn Sartucci
